Sonepur Fair is a two week cattle fair held here in October/November each year. It is organized around the full moon of Kartik Purnima the most auspicious time for taking holy dip at the confluence of the Ganges and Gandak rivers. It is probably the largest animal fair in Asia. All sorts of animals from cows to elephants are traded here.BSTDC operates a tourist village during the fair.There are also several temporary huts for the visitors.
